…I am cursed by the weather gods!

Birdsong, originally uploaded by Graeme Neil Reid.

Hmmm, yes I am cursed. In the latest Hitchhikers Guide radio show there is a character that is actually a rain god who doesn't know it, and every where he goes it rains. The last month or so that’s happened to me. Yup I know I live in Scotland and the weather changes every five minutes but every time its really nice outside I'm stuck indoors working, and when I do finally get to go outside it gets dull and starts to rain. So I'm cursed it seems.

I've skipped the whole pencil and ink stage and gone straight to showing you part of the latest illustration coloured up. In the final picture this image is partially obscured and faded out so you get to see it in full "strength" if you get my meaning.

…what have I done!!!!!!

Playstation, originally uploaded by Graeme Neil Reid.

My lovely Playstation 2 is up for sale on Ebay. Why? Many reasons I suppose, no time to play on it is a good reason but also the arrival of a baby in six weeks is another. I haven't played on it in four months so instead of it sitting around gathering dust I may as well sell it and put the money towards essentials like nappies…

Click on the title to go to the Ebay page and buy this lovely games console of me, go on, go on, go on…

...hands!

Hands, originally uploaded by Graeme Neil Reid.

I wish I had more time to paint! I love painting, its so relaxing and the time just slips by as you slap paint on a board and create "something". I go through periods of either penciling and inking or just painting, and right now I just want to paint but I just don't have the time. The hands above are my way of shoe horning in a bit of painting into a job, this is for the second Interzone piece I'm doing. The picture itself will be a mixture of different medium and only the hands in the above picture will be being used, I will however just finish painting the rest of the elements in the picture when I have a spare moment to do so, in fact I've already started. The next part of the picture will be like the last in that I'll pencil up the rest of the image to go with the "hands" and then ink it, before scanning it in and colouring up in Photoshop. More soon…

…guess whose back x2

Back and tired from the Comic Expo at the weekend but well worth the trip. Set off on the Friday and endured the mind numbing train journey of six and a half hours to arrive in a windy but pleasant enough Bristol. The weekend was a mixture of meeting friends and standing behind a table trying to sell my new comic, not always the easiest of feats! The Expo was apparently well attended this year with an increase in general public coming through the door but they obviously decided to come and look and not buy. Everybody I spoke to over the weekend confirmed slow sales, all of which can leave you feeling a bit dumbfounded and jaded. But, even with the public reluctant to part with cash it was still a fun weekend and one I enjoyed very much. Sharing a table with Dave (Hitchcock) was great fun and we (hopefully) managed to keep each others spirits up and chatted about comics, artists and well just about everything. Good friends also helped the weekend pass with chat and inspiration, big thank you to Jay and Selina, Carl and Ang, Mark Peyton, Ade Brown, Rod and the guys at Spaceship Away and also to John Freeman who has written a nice bit about my comic at this site http://www.downthetubes.net/. And also a big ‘cheers’ to everyone who stopped buy and bought comics and art, said ‘hello’ or just stared at us :) Also, I went all that way with my camera and do you think I managed to take one shot? If anybody who went (Selina I’m talking to you here) did take a photo of the event please send on a copy!

Second guess whose back is… Mr Jim Leishman! Yup, Mr Dunfermline is back in control of my beloved football team. Just two games in charge and we are now NOT going to be relegated to the first division of Scottish football. The man is already a legend in my home town, but now he has reached near God like status. Happy times on the Halbeath Road, mon the Pars!

VE Day Germany Surrenders!

Daily Mirror 8th May '45, originally uploaded by Graeme Neil Reid.

'God bless you all. This is your victory! It is the victory of the cause of freedom in every land. In all our long history we have never seen a greater day than this. Everyone, man or woman, has done their best. Everyone has tried. Neither the long years, nor the dangers, nor the fierce attacks of the enemy, have in any way weakened the independent resolve of the British nation. God bless you all.'

...politics, religion and football.

Tomorrow sees the voting for the UK General Election and I’m bored silly by it all. Politicians in general just don’t seem to tell the truth, or really what I mean is that they don’t seem very genuine about anything. Out of the three major parties involved I think I could maybe put up with Charles Kennedy popping round for a cup of tea and a chat, he seems like the most “normal” compared to Tony and Michael, but the Liberal Democrats are no better than the others. I probably have a shocking regard for politics in general but I probably also represent the majority of the population. I will of course vote, its very important that we all do, but I doubt it will be for any of the main bunch. Should I be more involved in politics? Should I care more? Well, I could just as easily put the time I’d need to get concerned about politics into some other venture, maybe help a charity, dig over my back garden, wrestle alligators in the zoo. Apathy it seems will win the day!

Religion now then. I had a couple of happy Jesus lovers at my door today, and instead of turning them away early I stood patiently and listened to what they had to say. They seemed genuinely shocked that I hadn’t read the Bible, I told them that I didn’t have any particular religious feelings one way or the other. They wanted me to try reading the Bible to help cope with the strains of life and pointed out many verses that covered topics of today, covering the likes of poverty and greed in man etc. I think all religions are great if they help you in your day to day life, if you find comfort from a certain belief then that’s obviously good. I wasn’t being pushed into anything by the visitors to my door but I wasn’t exactly charmed by them either. Life is your own doing, live it the way you want, don’t harm anyone and don’t be blinded by your beliefs either. I suppose that my visitors believe that they can make some sort of a difference going out and spreading the word of their God but I wonder just how many people they antagonize while doing so.

And now finally, football. Hard times lately for my home club, Dunfermline Athletic. We are currently bottom of the Scottish Premier League with three games to play, one at home and the last two away. We are doomed for relegation, been there and done that before. All of this is agonizing after the success we have experienced over the last couple of seasons, but not totally unpredictable. If you don’t follow football (and many don’t) then you’ll no doubt not care the fate of one team or another. But, if you follow a team you’ll know how it feels when you can see desperation on the field during play and the slide advances on. Dunfermline just sacked its Manager and Coaching staff, so sometime soon, probably once the fate of the club is decided, we will have a new figure to steer us back to greatness. I just hope they select someone who can bring back some spirit and fight to the team!

End of transmission.
