Apparently the singular of
Silence is
Silent but I couldn't bring myself to write 'Silent Ink Sketch' as the title because it just seemed wrong. Anyway, the recurring monster/baddie for Series 6 was the
Silence who had the uncanny advantage of being a tall scary alien in a black suit with the knack of making you forget you even saw them once you'd looked away. The
Silence is a religious order who decide they must kill the
Doctor (by the torturous means of kidnapping his friends daughter who is in fact his future wife) and halt some future moment involving the
Doctor and a certain question about who he actually is and their own end. I could write more about the over complex means and ways they decided to use to achieve their goals and the outcome of the
Doctor pretending to die but I think my brain would hurt and I'd get comments from people who have spent a long time figuring this all out for good or bad.
Lets just admire the look of these
Silence instead as they have that classic 50s paranoia, men in black, Area 51, large alien head look. They have the big pointy fingers and their mouths go all long and scream when the point at you, the obvious Munch's
The Scream references but it also reminds me of
Invasion of the Body Snatchers with
Donald Sutherland and that brilliant ending, creepy stuff. They look pretty cool and when they all hang about together in a group upside down on ceilings its very much vampire country, bats in the belfry, see they are religious.
