Next weekend (31st march and 1st April) sees the fourth Hi-Ex Comic Con in Inverness, Scotland and once again I'll be there. And once again I'll be coming prepared and armed with a selection of goodies for the comic and art loving visitors.
After the success of my previous Hi-Ex sketchbook I've prepared a new edition for the show, the Hi-Ex 2012 Sketchbook is 32 pages packed with my sketches prepared for the show and from the last two years. Knowing that a large contingency of 2000ad fans are coming to the convention and realising that I hadn't drawn too many 2000ad related sketches to bring along I decided to do some quick sketches from the comic on the inside cover page of my sketchbook. This proved a lot more difficult than I had figured as the paper used for the cover is a nice thick but incredibly smooth card which made inking the sketches a tad toublesome. Not only did it mean that I could easily smudge the ink with my clumsy hand but the ink and pen markers that I used on some of them took so long to dry that my thoughts of doing more at the show where quickly abandoned. In one case it took over 24 hours for the sketch to dry out! Presented for you now, here are the ten 2000ad convention sketches that have thankfully dried out :)
So apart from my new sketchbook I'll also be bringing along some 30+ ink and colour marker sketches (many of which you can see in previous posts). I'll have a folder of new A3 prints of some my favourite pieces. I've had some more copies of my previous sketchbook printed and my small press collection comic 'One Last Time' from 2005. And I'll have two folders crammed full of original art to look through too!
A pretty full table of goodies, so if you plan to come along to Hi-Ex please stop by and say hello. The show itself has a great family atmosphere to it and there are loads of talks, guests, films (the venue has a cinema) and activities to keep you occupied. Check out the Hi-Ex website for the full schedule over the weekend, the charity auction and raffle, guests and exhibitors.
